About Author – Hemendra Kumar Roy

Hemendra Kumar Roy was an Indian Bengali writer and lyricist of Bengali literature. His real name was Prasad Das Roy. He is still unique in the arena of Bengali literature for his outstanding contribution to the early development of the genre of children’s literature in the Bengali language. He made a significant contribution to the early development of Bengali detective fiction through his famous stories ‘Jayanta-Manik’ and adventure ‘Bimal-Kumar’, dealing with the exploits of Jayant, his assistant Manik and police inspector Sundar babu. Ray and Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat translated into Bengali.

Who wrote the novel Premer Premara (The Lovers – Drama)?

He has done significant work in various branches of literature including poetry, essays, novels, plays, rhymes, children’s literature, critical literature, science literature, science fiction, biography etc. The Detective Omnibus book was warmly received by the Bengali readership.

In 1358, the writer Hemendra Kumar Roy published these characters continuously in the daily Basumati Patrika. Four years ago. But unfortunately, Abanindranath Tagore, Nirmal Chandra Chandra, Mohitlal Majumdar, Brajendranath Banerjee and Karunanidhan Banerjee have already passed away from the theater of the world. The writer wants to express the way he saw the geniuses during their lifetime. No changes were made.

Introduction – Ekhon Jader Dekhchi (Whom I See Now)

He is sincerely happy that the author’s memorable article published in the library titled “Jader Dekhchi” has been well received by the readership. The happiness of the writers is only when the readers are happy. At least this is what the author thinks. Others may have other ideas. Because there are many writers in Bangladesh these days, whose writings are questionable, like French writers like Stephen Mallarme and Paul Vallar, they are not willing to gain popularity to protect their fabricated aristocracy.

But the writer cannot be an elite literary even in the cosmos. He has no hesitation in saying out loud that he is greedy for popularity. He wanted to express his thoughts in the simple language of simple life, readers and people may like it. He wanted to adopt a simple method in literature.

In the novel “Jader Dekhchi” there were stories of all the heavenly writers and artists associated with the life memory of the author, who have distributed their gifts and wisdom to Bangladesh for four long ages. What can be called a half-century of pen-and-picture albums. But there is no picture of them in that album, luckily for us who are still alive today.
Among them there is an incomparable talent or great power. Everyone knows their names, everyone knows their qualities, but due to lack of personal relationships, no one can see the real from afar. But everyone is interested in seeing it.

A few days ago he wrote in a monthly paper – a famous foreign writer said:-
Yes, each successive generation regrets the past: it is a strange human penchant to suppose that the past is better perhaps it was.

At one age, the religion of the mind of each person is different. The nature of the young man is to rely on the future, for short is his past. But the elders want to embrace the past closely, because their hope for the future is dim.

There is no doubt that he is ancient, if not very ancient. He was also overwhelmed by the religion of antiquity. If there is no work in hand, he does not think about the future, his mind goes back to the eternal. Sitting in the bliss of memory, he listens to the green song of life. Later, how many faces floated in front of the eyes. He is a multitude.

The ultra-modern writers and artists I met in that crowd had nothing to match. The way they used to exchange ideas, interact, protect the dignity of sociality, these days it is no longer the case. The high-class writers-sitting, where all kinds of Sahitya and artists would take their seats and express their opinions without hesitation, has also become a thing of the past.

He still hears about a few small domestic meetings here and there and has been to a meeting or two – but their scope is so limited as to be insignificant compared to before. It is better not to talk about ‘Rabindranath’s Bichitra Sabha’, because no one has ever seen such a meeting in Bangladesh and it is doubtful whether anyone will see it in the future. Dwijendralal Roy and Shilpacharya Abanindranath, who used to enjoy the wonderful meeting even when they went to the building, where is the opportunity today?

In the past era, the offices of newspapers like Jamuna, Marambani, Mansi, Sankalp and Bharti used to organize extremely enjoyable literary meetings. “Yamuna” paper was small, but its meetings were big. How many writers used to come there, how many doctrines were preached.

All these meetings would not only establish bonds of love between writers, but with the help of them, new writers would also be formed. There the elders used to guide the youth – now it is the other way around. Geography has no value these days, only children are encouraged to guide the elders. Or they want to completely destroy the seniors.

All the notorious newspapers, editors and writers may not have grown up to grow beards, but they too have started using derogatory language targeting the famous people of the father’s age. It seems that the Bhattacharya era in Gurgaon. coming back again Those who have no respect for value or age, are not shy to sit in any meeting.

In our youth, the modern literati used to respect the ancient writers Respect here does not mean, however, that the elders should say the same to the younger ones. Take the case of Jaladhar Sen. He was the age of many of our fathers. We did not agree with his views and writings, but we never found an opportunity to attack him, bowed down to him again and again, and talked to him.

Listening to the opinions of many young writers today, it seems as if they believe that Bengali literature was born after the First World War. The previous ones are nothing, they are joined by hyphens. Aiming at them, Sisley Huddleston wrote –
The younger generation has been taught to this spice the airports of those who have gone before. In it’s own trivial way it sometimes discovers some small principle that the older men will knew, but which they put in its proper place in their system“.

It is not possible to form a meeting with this class of new writers. So maybe there was a shortage of literature meetings at that time. It is not even possible to say that if you go to the offices of the current monthly magazines, you do not get visits from various writers. I see a lot of them, but they talk about work, have two loud gossips, then get up and leave. There is no desire or opportunity for a higher discussion of any subject.

The last notable literary conference of Calcutta was housed in the “Kallol” office, where Sri Premendra Mitra, Achintya kumar Sengupta and Sri Buddhadeb Basu Prabhati visited. Seasoned groups such as “Bharati” and “Kallol” formed strong and innovative writers of their own. But then no other newspaper seems to have had such luck.

The author believes that one of the reasons for this is the lack of suitable literature-meetings. The editor or chief writer of one paper selects a few promising new literary aspiring writers to form a close-knit group and regularly invite them to a meeting to spend some time engaged in discussing literature and art, then surely a true literary woman can be developed. Of course, the success of such efforts depends on the personality, patience and experience of the main meeting.

The tradition of trying to create this writer and teacher can be seen from the early era of Bengali literature. During the British period, the chief and first poet of New Bengal was poet Ishwar Gupta, editor of the newspaper “Sambad Prabhakar”. The office of his newspaper was practically turned into a literary classroom.
The new writers of that era could not be attracted to him, such was the influence of his personality. He used to visit the houses of new writers to advise them. He heard from Bankim’s brother Purna chandra Chatterjee – Ishwar Gupta often visited Kantalpara to meet young Bankimchandra.

Bankim Chandra says in his own words: “And apart from Ishwar Gupta’s own kirti, Prabhakar’s apprentices have a kirti. He was the apprentice of Prabhakar, the most prolific writer of the country for a long time. Babu Rangalal Banerjee is one of them. Babu Dinabandhu Mitra is another. Besides, Babu Manomohan Bose is another. Bengali literature is indebted to Prabhakar for this too. The author himself is a special mine for Prabhakar. His first works were published in Prabhakar magazine.

At that time God Chandra Gupta gave him special encouragement. He gave special encouragement to all the youth who had some creative power. Deenbandhu, Dwarkanath Adhikari and the writer were given prizes once for poetry. Dwarkanath Adhikari is a student of Krishnanagar College – he got the first prize.

Who was Ishwar Gupta?

That Ishwar Gupta’s teacher did not fail, the famous achievements of literature emperor Bankim Chandra, dramatist Deenbandhu, poet Rangalal and dramatist Manomohan in different categories are the best proof of it. Dwarkanath Adhikari could not advance much in the literary world, perhaps he left this world prematurely.

Yes, want meeting, want guru or advisor. Talents like Bankimchandra and Deenbandhu Mitra also needed a guru. Rabindranath and Kabibar accepted Biharilal into the group. On top of that, he had many seniors as advisors and had his own magazines “Balak” and “Bharati” to help him. The main reason for the dearth of high-class writers in independent Bangladesh is that those who are inking the glass and raw white paper with their pen are unwilling to accept anyone as their guru.

After that, the writer has given his notes one by one, only half of them started their life in the latter half of the last century. Then I will come to the era of “Kallole” and close the book of his films. Not only literary, you can see the idols of other categories of geniuses in this album.
