Abanindranath Tagore is a famous Indian painter, aestheticist and above all a writer. Abanindranath Tagore gained a special reputation in the country as a multi-talented painter, sculptor and writer and played a leading role in painting and sculpture at various events in the country and abroad. His uncle was Rabindranath Tagore, the famous poet who won the Nobel Prize in India.

He was born on 7 August 1871 in Jorasankor Thakurbari. He started studying in Sanskrit College in 1881 AD and completed his studies in Sanskrit College till 1889 AD. Then in 1896 he was appointed assistant principal of the Calcutta Art School. He was the first among the Indians to attain this status.
