Abanindranath Tagore wrote the Bengali novel Raj Kahini.

Abanindranath Tagore is a famous Indian painter, aestheticist and above all a writer. Abanindranath Tagore gained a special reputation in the country as a multi-talented painter, sculptor and writer and played a leading role in painting and sculpture at various events in the country and abroad. His uncle was Rabindranath Tagore, the famous poet who won the Nobel Prize in India. He was born on 7 August 1871 in Jorasanko Thakurbari. He started studying in Sanskrit College in 1881 AD and completed his studies in Sanskrit College till 1889 AD. Then in 1896 he was appointed assistant principal of the Calcutta Art School. He was the first among the Indians to attain this status.

Notable stories written by Abanindranath Tagore in his famous novel Raj Kahini are: Shiladitya, Bappaditya, Padmini, Hambir, Hambir’s Rajyalav, Chanda, Rana Kumbh and Sangram Singh.

King George V and Queen Mary visited India in 1911. While visiting the art gallery at the time, he was given the task of teaching them about Oriental art. They were overwhelmed. In addition, an exhibition of Abanindranath Tagore’s paintings was held in London in 1913. The British government was impressed by his paintings in the exhibition and awarded him a CIE.

Author Abanindranath Tagore was acclaimed by Bengali readers for his novel Raj Kahini. As much as he was a visionary in painting, his book Raj Kahini became acceptable to the readers as soon as it was published. The main success of his literary work came from his novel ‘Raj Kahini’. The people of Bengal realized the importance of his versatile paintings much later. He died in December 1951 at the age of 80.
