The Bengali novel ‘Durgeshnandini’ was written by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay, the emperor of literature. First of all we have to say that Durgeshanandini is Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay’s first novel. The novel was first published in March 1865, when Bankimchandra Chatterjee was in the throes of youth. He has been writing novels, stories and comics since then. Just as the horse of Ashwamedha Yajna flew away in the dust, so he is running in the air of Bengal with the horse of literature in order to win. And it is acknowledged that he has won. That is why he was given the title of “Sahitya Samrat” in Bengali literature.
Durgeshanandini is the only successful novel in Bengali literature. The main characters of this book are Ayesha, Bimala, Tilottama, Jagatsingh and Osman Khan. Towards the end of the sixteenth century Orissa became turbulent in the atmosphere of conflict between the Mughals and the Pathans over rights. At that time the author Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay wrote this novel. Although written in the form of historical events, love, conflict, trauma, thrill, mystery are all present in this novel.
Jagat Singh, the commander-in-chief of Delhi, was forced to take refuge in a temple on the way after being caught in the thick fog during his journey to Mandaran. It was there that he met two very beautiful women. He returned to Rajpur with them, keeping their identities secret. The prince became very interested in their appearance. Especially fascinated by their beauty. Jagat Singh was attracted to Tilottama. But when he found out the identity of Tilottama, he realized that reunion between them was impossible. But he was waiting for the meeting.
At that time Pathan general Osman Kha attacked and captured the fort of Mandaran with great skill. He captured Jagat Singh, Birendra Singh, Bimala and Tilottama. At that time Birendra Singh was beheaded with a sword and killed.
