Keshab Chandra Nag was born on 10 July 1893 on the day of Rath Yatra in Nagpara village of Gurap in Hooghly district of West Bengal. His father was Sri Raghunath Nag and his mother was Kshiroda Sundari Devi. He lost his father when he was only three years old and has been without a father ever since. His only mother raised him from an early age.

Keshab Chandra Nag started his education at a primary school in Gurape near his village. He studied in the Bengali medium primary school of that village till sixth class. In the seventh grade, he was admitted to Yajneshwar High School in Vastara village, a few miles away from their village. He would go to school on foot that morning and it would be evening when he returned from school. He was admitted in the ninth class of Kishanganj High School and started studying attentively.

In 1912 he passed the entrance examination in the first class and was admitted to Surendranath College of Science in Calcutta. There he passed the ISC examination in first class. Later he had to face severe financial problems and as a result it was no longer possible for him to study. Because then he had to stop studying due to financial weakness of his family and run in search of work.

Fortunately, he started his career as a third master at his school Vastara Yajneshwar High School. After being hired as a teacher there, he used to teach many students at his home for free. But he did not work there for long. He resigned from his job for higher education.

In 1917 he passed BA in Mathematics and Sanskrit. As soon as he passed mathematics, he got a job as a mathematics teacher in Kishanganj High School. While teaching at Kishanganj High School, he later joined Krishnanath Collegiate School, Baharampur as a mathematics teacher. By that time, his reputation as a math teacher had spread around.

In 1919, he was initiated by his mother Sarada Devi. At that time Maharaja Monindra Chandra Nandi of Kasimbazar was a big fan of Keshab Chandra. Maharaja Krishnachandra allowed him to use their huge library. In that library he studied extensively the history of India and the history of mathematics. He intends to publish a book on mathematics.

In 1909, Sir Ashutosh, along with his teacher Shyamacharan Bose, wrote a book on arithmetic for school. But unfortunately Ashutosh Mukherjee died at that time. His son Shyamaprasad Mukherjee took the initiative to revise the book and requested Keshab Chandra Nag to help. Keshab Chandra Nag and he, along with a few other mathematicians, reviewed the book in 1937 and worked tirelessly to revise it and the book was published as ‘Arithmetic’.

Kavishekhar Kalidas Roy was a colleague of Keshab Chandra Nag. He came in contact with Premendra Mitra and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and gained special knowledge of literature in their company. At that time Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay requested Keshab Chandra to write a book on mathematics. After much thought, he decided to publish a book on mathematics for the benefit of the students. His first book was published as Naba Patiganit (New Arithmetic).

This new arithmetic book became very popular among the fifth and sixth grade students. In 1942 he published a textbook on secondary mathematics. He later published various mathematics books for classes IV to XII. Apart from Bengali, his books were published in English, Hindi, Urdu and Nepali.

He also published the book Higher Secondary Elective Mathematics Part Two after the publication of Part One on the subject. Professor Keshab Chandra Nag is still present in his self-respect due to his special erudition in composing mathematics. He was well versed in various subjects of mathematics, especially algebra, arithmetic, geometry, scales and trigonometry.

His mathematics books are taught from class five to MSc class. Not only sound education but his alertness and dedication too are most required. Researchers are still working on his artwork and style.
