The emergence of Swami Vivekananda as a perfect standard of knowledge, devotion, action and meditation for the welfare of all mankind long ago. The influence of religion on the astonishing success of materialism was then somewhat stagnant; India, the heart of religion, seems to have lost its way due to illiteracy and poor education, subjugation and poverty. At that juncture, Swami Vivekananda emerged as the infallible guide of the future mankind. Not only did his arrival awaken the gloomy India in action, but also Europe-America, open to menstruation, found new light in his education, meditation and knowledge. Seeing an eternal form of spirituality, people began to misunderstand themselves about religion.

From an early age Vivekananda became deeply conscientious and various forms of his conscience were manifested in his mannerisms and speech. From an early age he became fascinated with the true nature and search for God. Vivekananda was very rational from a young age. Later he became attracted to spirituality. He visited different places in search of God and tried to find out from different people, but he did not find any good answer. Yet he was a novice in the search for God and did not give up. His search continues. Thus one day he reached Sri Ramakrishna. Even then he asked who you saw God.
In that context Sri Ramakrishna replied in simple language yes I see you in front of me just like I see him. Sri Ramakrishna quenched Vivekananda’s longing to find that God for so many years and Vivekananda was attracted to Sri Ramakrishna after hearing his answer. A few days later he came to Dakshineswara in the presence of Lord Krishna. There he departed from the path of worldly religion and took initiation to Sri Ramakrishna and attained the golden robe and sannyasa. By the grace of the Guru, he attained Nirvikalpa Samadhi at Kashipur. From the body of Sri Ramakrishna, he then became the mediator of the devotees. In this way his spiritual life continues. Gradually the message of Swami Vivekananda began to spread in the society. Shortly afterwards, he set out on a tour of India, preaching Hinduism.

In 1893, Swami Vivekananda represented the country at the World Congress of Religions in Chicago. On the eve of Yajna at this World Religions Conference, he was severely financially distressed. But he did not give up, and many of his disciples helped him financially to attend the World Congress of Religions. When he finally began to speak on the stage of the Artha Dharma Mahasammelan, he addressed me as my dear American allowance and sisters. During the British rule, the world had a vague and negative view of Hinduism, and the purpose of the convention was to prove the superiority of Christianity by comparing different religions. After Swamiji’s speech, it was no longer possible, but Hinduism was the triumph. After hearing his speech, the people there requested him to speak in different places. He also preached the glory of Hinduism to the world by giving lectures in different parts of America and England. He founded the Vedanta Society in New York, USA in 1894 for the practice and propagation of Vedanta. Many people abroad were attracted to him and accepted his discipleship. One of the many disciples in Ireland was Miss Margaret Nobel, later known as Sister Nivedita.
In this way his name spread all over the country as well as all over the world.

One of his immortal sayings, ‘Wherever you look for your leave in front of many forms, God loves the living, the one who serves God’. His message became known all over the world. Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sage Arvind Ghosh, Balgangadhar Tilak, Jagadish Chandra Bose and other scholars were influenced by Swami Vivekananda.
He established Ramakrishna Math and Mission in 1897. The jetty is managed by Belur Math in Howrah near Calcutta. He left his mortal body on July 4, 1920, at the end of the great work of Swamiji’s short life.

Swami Vivekanander Bani O Rachana (Swami Vivekananda’s words and compositions) were published by the principal of Ramakrishna Math in Belur to commemorate the centenary of his birth. The PDF file of the above 10 volumes is given on this page for the benefit of the readers. Readers will be able to collect the PDF file of the book from this page and read it online.
